What happens to all those colorful Atlantic City characters during the off-season?
If you’re Miss America, you do video interviews with the Huffington Post and blog about how buffalo wings and Taylor Swift have shaped your life. (This is true.)
If you’re an inveterate gambler, you enjoy the casinos without feeling guilty about missing the beach. Not that you remember what sand feels like, anyway.
If you’re the town’s mayor, you feud with the governor.
And if you’re Louis Greenstein, the author of Mr. Boardwalk, you hole up in West Philly and work on your next novel.
But now it’s SPRING, or almost! Therefore Louis is coming out of hibernation. (If it’s still chilly outside, somebody smack that damn groundhog upside the head. Please!)
This Friday Louis will be at a private book club. But public appearances are in the offing:
Saturday, April 11, 3:00 p.m., Woodmere Art Museum, 9201 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118, 215-247-0476: Louis will talk about the relationship between writing and narrative visual art with the extraordinary painter Sarah McEneaney. Take a peek at her work, and remember that Louis has written for theater and for TV cartoons (Rugrats); you'll definitely want to hear this conversation.

Saturday, May 9, 7:00 p.m., the Musehouse reading series at the Chestnut Hill Gallery, 8117 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118, 215-248-2549: Louis will be reading and talking with Julia MacDonnell, author of Mimi Malloy, At Last! This is the day before Mother’s Day, and mothers figure prominently in both novels. If you don’t yet have a present for Mom, how about signed copies of both books?
